Vietnamese restaurant, pub
Imagine the most unextraordinary pub - no decoration (besides for some swirly whirly carpets of course), all the big commercial beers on tap, basic rooms up top etc. But instead pushing out burgers and steak, there’s a Vietnamese auntie and a menu of daily seafood specials. Pick your seafood (periwinkles, pipis, razor clams, whelks, crabs - depends on the day), and pick your sauce (garlic butter, sate, tamarind - also depends on the day). It won’t be cheap, but it’ll be excellent value for good quality, fresh seafood that’s far more expensive further east or in any restaurant with ‘modern Australian’ tag.
Tips:
Ignore the menu on the wall, it’s out of date. There’s a QR code on the counter which has the daily menu, check that or their Facebook but you’ll need to read Vietnamese for the latter. Unless you’re going midday on a weekday, call ahead - it’s extremely popular and regularly books out.
What you’re about to see is a map of Sydney restaurants, cafes, delis and bakeries. Every one of them was chosen based on conversations we’ve had with different community groups in Sydney. You’ll be able to use this map to search for those eateries based on cuisine, opening hours and your location.
